BEAUTY & THE FEAST

"I NEED A FRIEND WHO CAN EAT WITH ME.

Contrast modern and traditional Korean culture through three extremely unique relationships with food.

First, we explore Mukbang, the Korean social eating phenomenon where people pay their hard earned money to watch others eat. We learn about the popular "broadcast jockeys" and their loyal audiences who feel connection and companionship through the growing subculture.

Next we visit a windy volcanic island, home to the famous Haenyeo, renowned women divers who follow a difficult generations-old fishing tradition that represents their culture and identity.

Last, we learn about the plus-sized model industry in Korea, and how despite rampant rejection and judgement, the ability to inspire others is what keeps these atypical models going.
