PRISON FOOD

"I REMEMBER WHEN ME AND MY MOM USED TO COOK THIS. THE SMELL OF CHICKEN TINOLA IN THE KITCHEN. I REMEMBER IT."

Explore the powerful relationship between prisoners and food in the Philippines and Indonesia, not just their connection with the outside world, but also an opportunity for self-worth and redemption.

Filipino American Chef Johneric Concordia takes you on a journey to some of Asia's toughest prisons, getting to know the prisoners, their families on the outside, and joins prison cooks preparing meals for the entire population under strict timelines and with minimal equipment.

We speak to hardened criminals, but more importantly learn a lot of people behind bars aren't necessarily bad or sociopathic, a lot of the time just hard working people that happened to make a mistake, counting down the days and on food for their second chance.
